Risk Assessment of GBV/SEA/SH and the Mapping of GBV Management Institution in the North-West Region.
C-CARE conducted a risk assessment of Gender based violence (GBV), Sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), Sexual harassment (SH) and Violence against children (VAC) in the North West Region (NWR) of Cameroon. The project also involved creating a directory of institutions that offer support to survivors. This assessment was completed in November 2024. The target communities included 18 subdivisions spread across all 7 divisions of the NWR.
Our team conducted interviews with stakeholders from the 18 communities and also organised workshops for consultations. Maps were designed showing the support institutions of the various divisions
The conflict in the NWR is a key risk factor of GBV and there is a breakdown in the judicial and traditional cultural justice system that only increases the risk. Rape and sexual violence in particular have increased significantly. GBV management institutions are providing Psychosocial support, Healthcare, economic empowerment, legal support, and safe shelter/safe space, Psychosocial support represents 41.2% of the total services to survivors. These services are inconsistent because they depend on short duration projects that are funded by INGOs and implemented by CBOs and LNGOs. Psychosocial support services are generally free while the other services are partly free and partly paid depending on the institution.
There are 58 institutions which offer support and they include international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), Local NGOs, community based organizations (CBOs) Health facilities (private and public and private law firms.
